Wow!! Mahaffey's just gets better and better! I understand there is another tower for MORE beer on the horizon and very talented new chef Steve cooks up some terrific specials (was serving a mean burger with portabello mushrooms, brie and red onions on my last visit). The upstairs lounge has just opened for the season on Fri. and Sat. nights and is non-smoking. They even have a "100 Beer Club" which, when given the constant rotation of great beers is very easily achieved. It's definately my "home away from home"!

For someone not from Canton, Mahaffey’s is hard to find; and the locals appreciate this fact, since it really belongs to them. With that said, anyone willing to seek it will find a warm welcome, good food and a reasonably priced and well-maintained, though not extensive, draught selection. On my most recent visit I enjoyed the excellent Brewer’s Art Resurrection Ale, Great Divide’s Racer 5 IPA, Lancaster Dunkelweizzen (rather sweet), several selections from nearby Capitol City Brewing Company and the indomitable Orkney Dark Island. They rotate frequently, so this changes...
It is not a large pub; upon entry there is a small bar accommodating about 20 people that opens into a dimly lit dining area complete with large screen television for when the O’s or Ravens are on the field (in their respective seasons, of course). Mahaffey’s may be hard to find, but it is a hidden gem in a quiet neighborhood that is worth the effort. --

A new second-floor bar and lounge (non-smoking) has been added, and the menu and cooking quality gradually but substantially upgraded. This is no longer the "beer geek's basement den" that it once was; it's now a top-flight beer bar and restaurant. Tries its darnedest to have cask ale on handpump seven days a week; tries (but occasionally fails, thanks to warmer weather, shipping, etc.) to have fresh firkins every Thursday.

Stopped by Mahaffey's a couple of weeks ago with my son. What a great place. The service was wonderful. I had never been to Canton before. If Fells Point is too hectic slide down a couple of blocks & try one of the nicest beer bars I've ever been to. I like this place.

Cask/real ale supplies have, just like everywhere else, been subject to the vagrancies of weather and supplies--you're not going to consistently find cask at Mahaffey's until colder weather sets in. I'd rather applaud Wayne for preferring quality to "must have cask ale". As for the rest, still small, comfy, like a beer geek's basement den, terrific variety of both taps and bottles well maintained.

Warm, friendly place with the best micro/craft tap selection in Canton. Bottle selection is very large and continues to grow. Creative chef supplies plenty of great food to accompany the great beers. Prices on everything are very reasonable. Service is fast, friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Mahaffey's also sponsors beer dinners, tastings and other special events. Steak Night every Tuesday is a real treat.

First time to Mahaffey's, and it was quite impressive. Outstanding selection for the number of taps: no clinkers at all. Great small bottle selection as well, and service was pretty quick and plenty cheerful. Steamed shrimp was delish; I can still smell Old Bay on my fingers. I'd go back to Mahaffey's again and again and again. Cask-conditioned beer EVERY DAY.

The SPBW recently descended on Mahaffey's and had a great evening of beer drinking. The staff was outstanding in spite of the crowd and the beers were excellent. One of the best "locals" I've ever been in.

First time here. Sort of hidden off the track from the main street in Canton (a good thing). Quiet, but spacious. Pool table upstairs. Supposedly food is good (didn't try). Beer selection is a decent and good quality. Around 8-9 regularly rotating taps and about 20-30 bottles. Had Hop Devil and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale most recently.

A diamond in the rough! I have lived in Canton pretty much all my life and just discovered this place a month or so ago while walking to Safeway. I have seen it for years but always thought it was like every other corner bar in the neighborhood... but to my surprise, it not! They have a very fine selection of ales (nice hi-octane ones too!) Belgian, German, weekly cask! (The Elderberry was awesome yesterday!) Also the place is run by someone that cares and shares an interest in beer, it's not just about mass market profit in that place, it's like a second home to have a good beer and relax in. Almost forgot the matching glassware for the brews is ace! Two thumbs for Wayne's place!

This is the type of corner bar everyone wishes they had in their neighborhood...unfortunately for me I have to drive across town to get here. There's always a fine selection of beer on tap, and a new cask every Monday that is usually unbelieveably good, odd, and different all at once. Wayne's a pubcrawlers dream come true! If you like Belgians, high-octane winter brews, stouts, or Miller Lite (the token mass market brew on tap) you'll love this place in the winter. I havn't been to this place in the summer, but I expect to see some lighter, fruity, pale, and maybe even a Lambic? I hope...

Owner Wayne Mahaffey is the new kid in town: his cozy pub is a gem in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore, attracting a growing number of good beer fans along with his loyal locals. He and his staff are revivalists in the all-too-rare art of conversation and conviviality. Mahaffey's has 9 taps, a cask every Monday (a mix of regional and British), and a healthy, growing bottle list. There's a small but efficient kitchen and grill. Current specials include Oysters on the half-shell on Mondays and Steak Night on Tuesdays. Mahaffey plans to open an upstairs area in the near future with an expanded range of taps, a dedicated cask line, and additional dining seating. Tapped on a recent visit were Dominion Polish Porter (on cask), Unibroue Blanche de Chambly, Schneider's Aventinus Eisbock, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, Brewers Art Resurrection, Dominion Millenium, Troegs Oatmeal Stout, Lancaster Oatmeal Stout, Corsendonk Christmas, and Guinness Stout.
